"More than just a business."From the Back Bench to the Lap of the Himalayas
More than just a business. A promise three friends refused to break.
It started in a noisy classroom at Baruipur High School—Section C, right on the back bench.
Bithin, Ayan, and Vikramjit. Friends since nursery, and honestly, not-so-good students on paper—the classic back-benchers who cared more about big dreams than exam marks. While the class looked at the blackboard, we were lost in the pages of Bhraman travel magazines that our computer teacher, Somnath Sir, introduced us to (Sir, if you are reading this today—thank you so much for showing us a world beyond four walls). Right there on that school bench, we made a pact: one day, we would build something of our own in travel and hospitality.
When Life Tested the Dream
Growing up in a middle-class family means dreams don't always get an easy road. Ayan and Vikramjit stepped into Hotel Management, while family pressure forced Bithin to let go of his IHM seat and take a different path. Our routes separated, but our brotherhood didn't move an inch.
Right after college, we poured everything we had into our first venture—Foodie Bros in Baruipur. People didn't just love our taste; they loved our honesty and heart. Still today, people cherish those memories and experiences. Just when it felt like we were flying, the second lockdown of COVID-19 hit. Overnight, the shutters came down. Watching something you built with your own hands close down breaks a part of you.
We Refused to Quit
We lost a business, not our fire. Bithin fought his way into the travel industry—the domain he always loved—and Vikramjit also chose the exact same path. We worked relentlessly from the ground up, learned the trade inside out, and kept our eyes on the mountains.
We traveled across North Bengal 22 times a year, searching ridge after ridge for a place that carried the magic we once daydreamed about as kids. When we stood on the quiet cliffside of Kagey, Kalimpong and saw the golden crown of Mount Kanchenjunga rising right in front of us, we knew we had found it.
We Built It.
Lap of Himalayas Homestay wasn't built by big investors. It was built by three childhood friends who fell down, stood back up, and kept their word to each other. Every corner of this homestay and every window framing the snow peaks is made with the exact same love, great value, and warmth that people still cherish from our Foodie Bros days.
"To anyone out there holding onto a dream with your best friends—don't let go. Because we did it. And if three back-benchers from Baruipur High School can build their own homestay in the Himalayas, so can you."
